This desk has the characteristic of the Renaissance Revival movement, which was popular in American furniture during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The desk futures the "North Wind" Motif on both front sides. This hand-carved face was a popular decorative theme in Victorian homes, often believed to ward off evil spirits. The Desk is made of quarter-sawn oak (often called tiger oak), a durable and highly figured wood that was a staple of American furniture manufacturing in the early 1900s. See less
