In the foreground, a group of shepherds herd a flock of sheep, while a splendid castle can be glimpsed in the distance.

The loose brushstrokes lend the composition a vibrant overall effect. The palette is dominated by warm, brown colors, with bright highlights on the animals' wool. The composition is balanced, and the language harks back to the Central Italian tradition of the first half of the 18th century.
