The image is of a woman, caught mid reflection with closed eyes, holding her hands to her face as if to ground herself as she breathes and prepares for whatever comes next. Painted in vibrant hues of yellow, orange, blue, chartreuse and fuchsia, this piece is complimented by the bold selection of mat and frame. The 5/8" gold frame is contemporary, constructed with a 45 degree bevel that brings the viewer in. The gilding is accentuated with with straight lines etched onto the frame, with the top and bottom portions of the frame having vertical lines and the right and left sides of the fame having horizontal lines, thereby also bringing in focus into the artwork.

The selection of double matting adds to the gravitas of the piece, with the 0.5" green interior mat and the 2.25" exterior mat in black.

While the subject matter of this painting might be said to be the beauty of a tall, lean, older woman of color, the beauty of this piece also comes in its intention. It is not a gratuitous, contrived image of a woman in the nude, but rather one that celebrates this woman, exactly as she is, in this moment. See less
