Introducing an incredibly rare early Scandinavian Modern side chair attributed to Yngve Ekström for Gemla Diö. Produced in the early 1950s in Sweden, this stunning chair is constructed from a frame of solid Burmese teak replete with old-growth woodgrains throughout. The original leather seat, hand-nailed to the frame, provides a simultaneously rugged and sophisticated look echoing the tenants of Scandinavian Modern minimalism.
Yngve Ekström was a Swedish furniture designer, wood carver, sculptor and architect and an important figure in the evolution of the Scandinavian Modernism movement. Ekström is best known for the "Lamino" armchair, an ergonomic and minimalist easy chair that he designed in 1956 and which has been in continuous production ever since. In 1999, the "Lamino" was named by the influential Swedish magazine Sköna as the Swedish furniture design of the twentieth century.
This incredibly rare and archetypally Swedish Modern chair is in stunning original, vintage condition making it ideal for collectors searching for an early Scandinavian Modern chair that is ready for a lifetime more of use. Petite, exquisitely crafted and typically understated this alluring piece is ideal for those who are limited on space but unwilling to compromise on style. Make it yours today before it's gone forever.

The solid teak frame and legs show some minor surface scratches (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided) but show no gouges, stains or other damage whatsoever and the teak woodgrains are absolutely stunning in natural light. The original leather seat, hand-nailed into the frame, shows minor tears (shown in the detail photos provided) as well as scratches and areas of patina which are shown in detail in the natural light video provided.
