Pair antique 19th c. English blown and cut cranberry glass hurricane sconces with brass candle cups and ring brackets for wall mounting. The ruby glass shades are thick & heavy; profusely cut with stars, swags and circles. Each shade with a thick gilt lion crest featuring the sun and a sabre or sword. This crest is the emblem for Iran and from 1846 appears on that country's flag.
Each measures 12" tall x 5.5" in diameter. The sconces stand 7.5" out from the wall. These are perfect over the fireplace mantle, in a hall, dining room or library. Good condition - a few minor flakes to interior rim does not detract.
