Saverio Dalla Rosa (1745 - 1821) was an Italian painter, active mainly in Verona, Italy. He was born in Verona, and trained there under Giambettino Cignaroli (1706-1770), his maternal uncle. It was his uncle who set him on the path to art, giving him a classical style. He painted sacred subjects and portraits, including one of the young Mozart. Dalla Rosa lived and worked mainly in Verona and its surroundings. In 1770, commissioned by Pietro Lugiati, an official of the Republic of Venice, he painted an oil portrait of the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was fourteen years old at the time. Dalla Rosa also worked in architecture, but none of his designs were ever built. He was also a meticulous cataloguer of Verona's artistic heritage. See less
