John Clifford Huffington (1864 - 1929) watercolor and gouache painting of a Connecticut landscape in light tones with a figure in the foreground. Presented in original frame with linen mat. Measures 18" x 15 3/4" framed.
Huffington was born in New York at the time of the Civil War and was exposed to the arts through his contact with artists who frequented his father's arts supply store and gallery. He is a self-taught painter known to have lost his sight at the height of his career. The Library of Congress Catalogue of Copyright 1917 shows two notations for words and music to "The Commuter" and "The Sirens Call to Arms" both granted to Huffington who at the time resided in Darien, Connecticut. His works were shown at the Boston Arts Club, the Pennsylvania Academy and the Art Institute of Chicago.
