The oval-shaped backrest, fluted legs, and restrained corner joints create a formally balanced and calmly proportioned appearance. Historical Context: The Louis XVI chair developed in the late 18th century as a conscious departure from the more expressive Rococo style, emphasizing clean lines, antique motifs, and stricter proportions. Around 1900, these forms were revived as part of historicist movements and used for prestigious dining and parlor furniture, particularly in bourgeois living and dining rooms with classically inspired furnishings. Features: - Oval-framed backrest with a vertical center strut - Fluted legs that taper downwards with carved corner ornaments. Design: Stylistically indebted to the Louis XVI style, with typical features such as an oval medallion backrest, straight lines, and fluted legs. The design follows a symmetrical, clearly structured layout with reduced ornamentation and emphasizes the vertical lines. Function: Originally conceived as seating for dining rooms or parlors, usually arranged around a dining table or along a wall. Today, it can still be used as dining chairs or as individual pieces in hallways, bedrooms, or dressing rooms. Dimensions in cm: Seat height 46 / Overall height 92 / Width 50 / Depth 48. Material and condition: Solid beech wood, cream-colored finish with visible patina and intentional partial chipping of the finish; seat and back upholstered with a velvety cover in a light ochre tone. Very good and stable condition with few signs of age-related wear; sturdy. See less
