A delicate side table from around 1960, designed by dieter waeckerlin. A trained cabinetmaker, waeckerlin initially focused on designing wooden furniture, but metal played a central role in his work, particularly in seating and tables. In collaboration with a metalworker from allschwil, he developed characteristic frames and bases that remain a hallmark of his design. A typical feature is the dynamic interplay between the horizontal metal rails and the significantly slimmer, vertically oriented legs. This piece particularly demonstrates how waeckerlin explored the limits of the material around 1960: extremely fine legs, only a few millimeters thick, support a clearly defined glass top. The precisely screwed corner joints and the cleanly crafted angles underscore the high level of technical sophistication in its production. The transparency of the glass top, combined with the cool, shimmering metal, lends the table an almost floating lightness – a functional and elegant statement of swiss post-war design.
``` \. Condition: age-related wear and tear on the metal frame and glass top in the form of light scratches and minimal scuff marks. The construction is stable and solid, and the glass is undamaged.
