This refined sōsaku kokeshi is an elegant object with a calm, quiet presence.

Afmetingen: hoogte 15 cm, diameter 7 cm.

The form is slender and perfectly balanced, with deep dark hair framing the delicate face. The features are intentionally minimal: narrow eyes and a small red mouth, just enough to give her a soft, serene expression.

The body is finished in a warm moss-green tone and carefully hand-painted: a large yellow butterfly as the central motif, complemented by small pink blossoms and subtle details at the collar.

The maker is Fujikawa Masae (藤川 正衛). The original packaging and the wooden name plaque also state that the artist is a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award. This example is preserved complete with its original green box and wooden name plaque (fuda). The base bears the maker’s label.

Condition is perfect—fresh and clean, with bright colours and a beautiful, even sheen. See less
