Opening its doors in 1873, Villa d'Este is one of the finest hotels in the world. Once a former 16th-century royal residence, the Villa d'Este overlooks the tranquil Lake Como.The hotel has long been a hangout for the Hollywood elite. After spending a weekend at the Villa d'Este, actor, Stanley Tucci, proclaimed the hotel to be his favorite. Other famous guests have included Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Lady Gaga, Elton John, and more. Alfred Hitchcock filmed his first film, The Pleasure Garden at the hotel in 1925.
