A refined example of 19th century French provincial craftsmanship, this Louis XV–style armoire features an elegant bonnet crown surmounted by a finely carved rocaille crest. The gracefully molded doors are inset with shaped mirrors, reflecting the fluid, serpentine lines emblematic of the period. - The armoire presents beautifully and remains structurally sound, with wear consistent with its 19th century age. The original locking mechanism … moreThe armoire presents beautifully and remains structurally sound, with wear consistent with its 19th century age. The original locking mechanism is no longer operational and is missing its key. As expected of an antique of this period, there are areas of age-related patina, including minor surface marks, slight separations at select panel joins, and subtle irregularities in the wood consistent with natural movement over time. These characteristics speak to its authenticity and history, while the piece remains both functional and visually striking. The only other imperfection is a minor scratch on the left door’s mirror in the upper left corner. The glass on both doors have minor scratches in a few places, which the one on the left corner being the most noticeable. From what we’ve seen and the pieces we’ve acquired, the mirror’s tend to have these sort of imperfections unfortunately.
