A wonderful example of … Read more Authentic early 20th century Northwood custard glass covered butter dish in the Nautilus (Argonaut Shell) Pattern. A wonderful example of American art glass from the early 1900's perfect for collectors of custard glass or as a decorative accent in a vintage inspired interior. Crafted in luminous custard glass (creamy ivory/opalescent uranium glass that glows brilliantly under blacklight/UV for that signature green fluorescence-perfect for collectors), it features an all-over hobnail texture mimicking nautilus shell ridges, a domed lid topped with a prominent seashell finial, and a footed base adorned with whimsical pressed motifs: branching coral/seaweed, scallop shells, acorns and oak leaves (hand-painted in green enamel for subtle color contrast). Hand applied gold gilt accents highlight the coral sprays, banding around the base transition, and shell details - adding elegant Victorian flair with just the right amount of age-appropriate patina.

Marked inside the base with the classic script "Northwood" signature, confirming authenticity. See less
