A fine painting by Konrad Cramer (Germany/NY 1883-1963). This work exhibits Cramer's whimsically precise approach to non-objective painting. It is w/c and gouache on paper and is signed with a partial date. C. 1950's. There is a Hudson Valley gallery label, verso. An interesting work by Cramer with a slightly unusual subject matter. It is framed, under glass.
Cramer was one of America's earliest modernist painters. He founded and directed the Woodstock, New York Art Association and the Woodstock School of Painting. He was born in Wurtzburg, Germany, and was influenced by the Munich expressionists called der "Blaue Reiter", founded by Wassily Kandinsky. Cramer later adopted Cubism to his works and was influenced by the works of Cezanne.
