This exceptional 19th-century French Orientalist bronze sculpture depicts a Nubian water carrier in a moment of graceful movement. Created by the renowned sculptor Charles Cumberworth (1811–1852), this piece is a classic example of the 19th Century Orientalist style.
The figure is elegantly portrayed wearing a loosely draped dress and a meticulously detailed turban. In her right hand, she carries a traditional water urn, while her left hand gathers her skirt as she steps forward on a naturalistic circular base. The bronze features a rich, mid-brown to golden-brown patina that highlights the fine details of the casting.
