This type of furniture refers to the traditional Japanese step chest, originally integrated into staircases in machiya townhouses and other wooden homes, where storage and architecture were combined in an ingenious way.

The layout is varied, with multiple drawers, two sliding doors, and open compartments that create rhythm, depth, and practical usability.
