Meet Señor Don Gato! Complete with a mustache (or should we say 'mouse-tache') and bouquets of flowers for his sweetheart. This charming piece of papier mache Mexican folk art is from the mid to late 20th century and is reminiscent of works by Sergio Bustamante or Gemma Taccogna. The Señor wears a red collar and carries lilac and red flowers with a touch of yellow. His mane, tail and paws are applied painted twine which provides additional texture and dimension. His mischievous smile and feline eyes are just loaded with personality. Signed at the base. Coffee table books shown for scale.
Overall the Señor is in good shape though there is a little loss of painted decoration on his right side as shown in photograph 11.
Señor Don Gato measures 10.5" tall x 5.75" wide x 8" deep.
