Working from her studio in Normandy, she builds each canvas through successive strata of paint, creating depth, texture, and subtle shifts in light. Her works are held in private and institutional collections internationally.

Strates de Lecture explores the architecture of books as both structure and metaphor. Organized across three horizontal levels, the composition suggests a library reduced to its essential rhythm: vertical volumes standing in quiet dialogue, punctuated by nuanced chromatic variations.

The palette blends muted blues, warm ochres, soft pinks, sage greens and deep navy tones against a restrained, luminous background. Each “book” is treated as a vertical field of matter, shaped by layered oil applications and delicate surface irregularities that evoke time and handling.

Rather than depicting a literal bookshelf, Sophie Dumont abstracts the idea of knowledge as sedimentation. The stacked rows become visual strata — layers of memory, thought, and experience. The balance between structure and painterly freedom gives the work both stability and movement.
