This striking and luminous vintage art glass hails from the world-renowned high quality glass hub of the world: Murano, Italy!
This piece of Venetian glass was designed and handmade in the 1960’s after being created by one of the most well known and most highly regarded designers of Murano glass at that time, Valter Rossi. Commonly used as either a candy dish or an ashtray, Rossi incorporated flecks of semi-precious metals into the pieces made at this time. One feature of a lot of authentic Murano art glass is the use of semiprecious metals being incorporated into the coloring and interior of the glass. Rossi chose to pair the gold toned metals with a richly beautiful green hued coloring, letting the two meld together. While many of the ashtrays and trinket dishes from this time period were abstract in shape, this dish, while still abstract, as well as many others with similar coloring, are more rounded with scalloped edging.
And these rolled edges are really the defining characteristic of the design of these pieces, which allowed each one to have more than one potential function, on top of already being an exquisitely well crafted, attention-grabbing piece.
The sparkling white bottom gives makes the base starkly contrast the metallic top, with three distinctive areas shaped in a fashion similar to handles. They also give the bowl’s base stability, while also adding to its unique and distinctive shape and — even more so — design.
