Antique Elite Works Limoges Two-Handled Gravy Boat - Celadon Dots and Gilded Scrolls
Elevate your holiday table with this elegant antique two-handled gravy boat from the renowned Elite Works (Bawo & Dotter) of Limoges, France. Produced during the factory's "Golden Age" (circa 1900–1914), this piece exemplifies the refined artistry of the French Belle Époque. It features a sophisticated scalloped rim accented by a delicate pale green dotted border and intricate, hand-applied gold floral scrollwork. The ornate, gold-encrusted handles add a touch of Gilded Age luxury to this luminous white hard-paste porcelain server. Originally part of an attached set, this boat now serves as a versatile and stately standalone sauce or gravy server.
Dimensions:
Length: 8 inches (handle to handle)
Width: 4.5 inches
Height: 3.5 inches
Condition:
Fair to Good Antique Condition. This authentic century-old piece bears a significant "patina of use" from its long history of service. The interior well features pronounced brown staining and light glaze crazing, along with moderate utensil scuffing. There is visible, heavy thinning and rubbing to the gold gilding on the ornate handles and along the scalloped rim. Originally attached to an underplate, the foot rim shows where it was separated. Structurally sound with no chips, cracks, or professional repairs noted.
Collector’s Note: The Elite Works Dual-Mark System
This gravy boat features the prestigious Elite Works dual-backstamp, a hallmark of superior Limoges porcelain. The green underglaze factory mark dates the porcelain body to 1896–1920, while the red overglaze 'St. Martial' shield confirms the decoration was completed in-house between 1900 and 1914. Despite the interior wear, these crisp marks verify its provenance from the factory's most celebrated era of production.
A timeless and functional survivor from a bygone era of elegance, this Elite Works gravy boat brings the refined charm of turn-of-the-century France to the modern traditional home.
