This delicate work of art depicts a noble lady seated on a green garden stool, elegantly dressed in a traditional robe, refining her appearance before a mirror.

Details:

• Origin: China, Canton (Guangzhou)

• Date: Mid-to-late 19th Century (Qing Dynasty)

• Medium: Gouache/Watercolor on pith (often mistakenly called "rice paper")

• Dimensions: Approx. 6 3/4" x 10"

• Condition: Fair antique condition. Please note the characteristic "pith breaks" and edge loss common with this fragile material (see photos). The colors remain remarkably vibrant.

Pith paper is made from the inner marrow of the Tetrapanax papyrifer plant. It is highly prized for its velvety texture and the way it absorbs pigment, creating a 3D effect. A wonderful addition for any collector of Chinoiserie or Asian Art.
