This painting is a still life featuring a rustic kitchen scene. The composition includes a large brown ceramic jug, a loaf of crusty bread, a white ceramic pitcher with a spoon, some eggs, a blue glass, a few greenish-yellow apples, and a striped cloth draped over the wooden surface. In the background, there's a niche in a textured, aged wall, which holds an antique brass oil lamp.
The overall atmosphere of the painting is warm and homely, capturing the essence of a simple, yet inviting rural kitchen. The detailed textures and warm color palette enhance the feeling of rustic charm. The painting is framed in an ornate gold frame of the highest quality, adding to its classical appeal.
Robert Chailloux is considered by many to be one of the finest Still Life painters of the 20th Century. Chailloux always manages to avoid any formal arrangement in his compositions, which consequently have a delightfully homely atmosphere. His colour sense and superb technique are beyond question, and it is not surprising that his reputation is so high.
Chailloux was born in Paris on 23rd April, 1913. He was a pupil of the “Cours Superieurs de Dessin des Ecoles de la Ville de Paris”, and later at the “Ecole des Arts Decoratifs”.
He exhibited for many years at all the principal Salons in France, including the Salon National des Beaux Arts, the Salon de la Marine and the Salon d’Automne. His work has also been exhibited in Great Britain, Switzerland, Belgium, America and Canada, as well as in Moscow in 1975 at the Museum Pouchkine, and then in Leningrad at the Hermitage Museum.
Chailloux’s paintings have been acquired by the City of Paris, and the Museum of the Ile de France. He was a member of the “Societe de la Salon de l’Art Libre”, the “Salon des Artistes Francais”, and the “Salon d’Hiver”. He was also elected to be an Officer of the “Arts, Sciences et Lettres.”
His biography can be found in all of the renowned Art Dictionaries of the World including Benezit, Kunster-lexicon and Who’s Who.
Chailloux sadly passed away at the end of 2006 yet today, his paintings can be found in private collections all over the World.
