It was originally published by O.W. Gray & Son, a prominent Philadelphia-based publishing firm in the 1870s. Known for their highly successful "National Atlas," O.W. Gray was one of the last commercial ventures of the late nineteenth century to employ traditional hand-coloring on their maps, which may be evident in this piece. One side of the map clearly features Louisiana, showcasing its intricate county divisions, cities, towns, and waterways as they appeared in the 1870s. The reverse side (as indicated by the "2-Sided Louisiana, Mississippi" label) would similarly detail Mississippi. Both maps offer a fascinating glimpse into the geographical and political landscapes of these Southern states during the post-Civil War era. The two-sided nature and potential hand-coloring make this a highly desirable item for collectors of antique maps, American regional history, or historical ephemera. Ideal for display in a frame that allows for viewing both sides, it provides a rich historical and artistic experience. See less
