Signed eugène louis charpentier (1811-1890) beautiful gilded wood frame from the period. A pupil of françois gérard and léon cogniet, he is best known for his battle scenes, most of which are kept at the château de versailles. He also painted portraits, the most famous of which is that of george sand (1839). He died in paris in 1890 and is buried in the montparnasse cemetery.
