The emphasized base, the prominent marble top, and the framing side moldings lend the piece a harmonious and elegant proportion. Historical Context: The Louis-Philippe period (c. 1830–1855) represents a bourgeois domestic culture that mediated between classical rigor and the emerging joy of historicism. Chests of drawers of this type served as central storage furniture in bedrooms and living rooms, combining functional simplicity with prestigious details such as marble tops and decorative fittings. with the increasing mass production in the 19th century, this type of furniture became widespread among the urban middle class. Features - Black marble top with fine grain - 3 drawers with porcelain handles and decorative brass fittings in the center, a "secret" narrow, handleless drawer beneath the marble top - Elegant walnut veneer Design Characteristic of the Louis Philippe style are clear rectangular forms, a pronounced base, and profiled top and frame elements. In contrast to the more austere Biedermeier style, the structure here appears more solid and three-dimensional, while the walnut wood, with its vibrant grain, adds texture to the surfaces. Function Formerly, the chest of drawers served to store linens and textiles in the bedroom or drawing room. Today, it is used both classically as storage furniture and as a standalone piece in living rooms or entryways.
