The work of luminaries and design geniuses like Edgar Brandt, Paul Kiss, and Michel Zadounaisky stole the show, but there were many other artists whose work is compelling but whose names are lost to history.

This light is a good example of wrought iron created for the modest French home (anywhere outside of Paris). Unassuming as it is, it commands our attention just by its simplicity and resulting elegance. The iron is hammered throughout and the patina original and in excellent condition. The leafy socket covers, stationed just above the top of the shades, bring that little bit of the natural world into the presentation, obligatory for most French products!

The Schneider shades are top drawer, from an already top maker. Fabulous Deco designs, lots of dimension in the pressed glass, and they’re signed ever-so-cleverly along the edge of one of the fanciful designs, about halfway up from the bottom. No condition “issues.”

Rewired, using the original French bayonet sockets which are about seventy thousand times superior to whatever American sockets might be employed. In the past I've replaced the French sockets interiors (the exteriors need to stay as a ring on them actually holds the shades in place) with American candelabra sockets. It's a lot of work to do this and the American sockets are nowhere near as high-quality as the French originals. Thanks to modern technology and invention, there's an adapter available which allows you, once it's installed in the socket (a two-second job), to use American screw-in bulbs (there's a picture of it along with a picture of a bulb with its bayonet mounting). I'm sending three such adapters along with this chandelier for your use. At the same time, you don't need to use these adapters, really, insofar as bayonet bulbs are readily available on the Internet, in a variety of wattages and sizes, all for use at the standard American voltage of 110. There, you have the best of all possibilities!
