In the 17th century Chinese porcelain was a sign of wealth, taken from overseas by the VOC. They were often used in the still-life genre of the Old Dutch Masters, also to show their skills in painting textures. Marlou searched for a new way of photographing these vulnerable cups in a scenic way. Photographing the turning composition, the unsharpness of the cups give a soft touch. The old porcelain has cracks and small fractures, which tell a story from the past. For Marlou these used objects are a sign of the old Dutch times. In our material world, where a lot of things must be new and perfect, it gives peace to appreciate these objects.
