Monica marries her abstract … Read more "Happy Flowers" is a small format, bright and colorful contemporary mixed media painting by Monica Shulman. Monica marries her abstract expressionist style with her love of still life botanicals and drawing. She was inspired by flowers from her own summer garden in the lower Hudson Valley. She created this cheerful abstract by first painting the flat canvas board with acrylic paint in her signature layered and sculptural style and then once dry, she used oil pastel to create this vivid, joyful still life of red flowers. Monica used varying values and shades of red, green, pink, and blue to create a rhythmic painting that will add dimension and a pop of color to any space. She also used white paint to create the idea of natural highlights. This piece is signed on the back.

Monica has been featured in various publications including Popular Photography, Create magazine, and the Huffington Post. In 2019 she was named "Best Artist" in Westchester by Westchester magazine. Her work has been shown at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York City, Photo LA, Art Market Hamptons, the National Association of Women Artists, PULSE Art Fair, and the New York Mercantile Exchange, among others.
