The stepped top rests on … Read more A square-section molded oak side table, late 19th/early 20th century. Probably originally a high stool. The stepped top rests on four legs joined by stretchers. Stamped “Jeanselme” on one of the stretchers.

The Jeanselme family were Parisian cabinetmakers. Founded in 1824 in Paris, this factory of armchairs and chairs quickly became the official supplier to the courts of Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III. The company closed in 1930. In Jules Verne's novel “Paris in the 20th Century,” the Erard and Jeanselme firms merge.

The side table is in good condition, with a beautiful wood patina. Marks and signs of wear consistent with its age. This piece has an attribution mark,
