The painter, … Read more Interesting painting depicting the famous biblical scene of the Sacrifice of Isaac told in the stories of Genesis. The painter, most likely a Tuscan active during the second half of the seventeenth century, was able to stage a tumultuous and somewhat brutal scene, in some ways setting the story in a very original and immediate way. It is possible to identify interesting influences with the contemporary Tuscan painting of the famous family of painters, the Dandini, specifically the set design and the graphics of Pietro or Ottaviano Dandini. The scenography is set perspectively from bottom to top, Isaac has his hands tied behind his back and writhes in the torment that his father Abraham is inflicting on him, tested by God. The angel bursts in at the fateful moment, blocking Abraham's sword to save Isaac. The painting was relined in the 19th century, but it is possible to see the ancient seventeenth-century canvas. The painting measures approximately 80cm x 60cm and 92cm x 72cm with the non-contemporary frame. We attach a certificate of authenticity to the sale. See less
