Antique 1880s large square shaped bowl with handles, called a 'jardiniere' for displaying plants, or planting directly. This one doesn't appear to have been used as a planter, would have been a shame to cover the detail inside. The decoration is very Art Nouveau with the flowers and swirls. There is an interesting 'scale' or tile effect in the upper section of the bowl, beneath the rim.
The underside is marked for the Grand Depot in Paris where British ironstone was imported and sold. There is the British ID mark, as described in the last photo. It could originate from a number of manufacturers but I suspect this was produced by Spode for the Parisian store. I've not been able to find another example.
There are some defects from the original decorating, little areas of paint missing from the rim, see photos. Plus there are some little spots on the finish, commensurate with age.
