The coffer having a four panel front, framed in moulded rails, with lunette carved frieze. Standing solidly on stile legs.

A strong, well proportioned example of Restoration Period joinery. with untouched deep patina, showing wonderful characterful wear as expected.

The lid is mounted on the original hand‑forged iron loop hinges. The interior's till box, used to store candles or documents, is missing its lid.

Minimal traces of historic woodworm present to each side panel. These have been treated as a precaution and filled. The coffer has no loose joints and is very sturdy. There are two hairlines to the top panels to note.

The lid closes fully, but the clasp naturally rests slightly above the iron lock plate when the chest is shut. Only when you manually press it down does it sit into the keyhole area and sit flush against the lock plate.

Overall an honest example, and very usable, offering both presence and practicality. Ideal as a blanket box at the foot of a bed, coffee table, or a hallway seat. See less
