This antique 7x11 Persian runner rug is a rare hand-knotted silk piece, believed to originate from the Isfahani city of Kashan circa 1890-1900.
On the Design:
This magnificent antique Silk Kashan carpet is a regal tapestry that exemplifies the highest standards of Central Persian weaving. Its design enjoys an elaborate, flowing floral and vine pattern—a complex, all-over garden scheme—woven across the entire field and borders. The core design centers on a gracefully stylized Tree of Life, blooming with intricate floral sprays that seem to ascend toward the heavens, framed by elegant spandrels and a dense border system.
The legendary nature of the weave is defined by its material: the silk further lends a luxurious natural sheen that allows the light to play across the surface, giving the field a luminous, soft-focus dimension.
While the palette of this piece is subtly rendered in soft, silvery tones, the structure is designed for a wealth of colors, which typically includes rich burgundy, deep navy blue, and chocolate brown. Keen eyes will admire the sheer range of hues and the masterful, curvaceous execution of the arabesques.
This item is an extremely collectible piece in all its elements that rather exemplifies the standards of regal Kashani rugs, showcasing impeccable density and artistry that make it a timeless testament to Persian weaving genius.
Condition:
This antique Persian rug hosts some wear consistent with a turn-of-the-century piece, and may be better suited to the wall.
