A beautifully proportioned and structurally honest American drop-leaf coffee table, manufactured by Tryner-Fletcher Co. of Los Angeles, California, circa mid-1930s to early 1940s.
The underside retains its original factory stencil reading:
TRYNER-FLETCHER CO.
LOS ANGELES, CALIF.
102-20
along with period pencil shop markings, further supporting its authenticity and regional West Coast origin.
When fully extended, the table forms a perfect 48-inch round. With leaves lowered, it converts to a compact profile, the sculpted panels dropping gracefully while the legs remain tucked beneath in their original rectangular footprint configuration — a hallmark of early 20th-century drop-leaf engineering.
The construction is solid and substantial, featuring:
• Solid plank top with visible leaf seams
• Rich, natural wood grain throughout
• Original metal swing-arm leaf supports
• Corner block reinforcement
• Sculpted, lathe-turned legs with subtle ring detail
• Rectangular leg stance (wider front span, narrower side span) true to original design
The underside framing and hardware reflect period manufacturing methods consistent with 1930s American furniture production. Tryner-Fletcher was a respected Los Angeles maker known for quality traditional and Colonial Revival forms during the interwar period.
This piece reads beautifully in a transitional interior but carries the integrity of early California craftsmanship.

Structure & Stability: The table is firm, level, and structurally solid. All legs are tight and secure with no wobble. The rectangular undercarriage configuration remains intact and properly aligned. Corner blocks and interior framing are original and stable. Drop-Leaf Mechanism: Both leaves operate smoothly and correctly. The original metal swing-arm supports are present and fully functional, extending and securing as designed. The leaves raise and lower with ease and sit flush when fully extended, forming a true 48-inch round surface. Surface Condition: The top presents beautifully with rich, natural wood grain and preserved character. There are no significant gouges or deep scratches. Minor, age-appropriate surface wear consistent with careful vintage use may be present but does not detract from overall presentation. The plank seams where the leaves join remain tight and structurally sound. Legs & Skirt: The sculpted, lathe-turned legs remain sturdy with crisp turning detail. Light, typical finish wear at the feet consistent with age may be visible but is minor. The 3.5-inch skirt is clean, properly aligned, and proportional to the original design. Underside & Maker’s Mark: The underside retains its original factory stencil: TRYNER-FLETCHER CO. LOS ANGELES, CALIF. 102-20 Additionally, the underside bears a period handwritten signature and numeric notation (likely a shop mark or quality control notation from production). While not attributed to a specific designer, this marking adds to the piece’s authenticity and manufacturing history, reinforcing its early 20th-century Los Angeles origin. All original hardware, fixtures, and structural components remain present. less
