The depiction of a foundry worker shielding his eyes from the glare of molten metal is a powerful industrial motif, characteristic of German realism and early modernism of the early 20th century. The dynamic, compact form and realistic detailing are in line with the aesthetics of Jugendstil / Art Nouveau in its more monumental, industrial vein.
The offered piece is a cast (ca. 1950–1975) based on the historical model from 1916. The sculpture is not signed or numbered. There are no foundry markings.
The figure is cast in bronze with a deep, dark brown patina and mounted on a massive green marble base. Its heavy weight (4.2 kg) and solid workmanship indicate that it is a mid-20th-century handcrafted piece, rather than a contemporary lightweight decorative replica.
