It depicts a protective deity (garuda or yaksha) in an "atlas" pose with raised arms and a sculptural face, finished in gold leaf on an antique red lacquer background. Originally conceived as a supporting or suspended decorative frieze, the back bears signs of manual workmanship and the original anchoring grooves.
