Original frame in moulded wood and pastiglia. Gilded with pure gold leaf. In some places, the gilding on the frame is visibly detached. The painted surface is protected by glass
The painting captures the essence of Expressionism through intense colours and bold brushstrokes. The painting is a key example of Expressionism, an artistic style that emphasises bold, unnatural colours, exaggerated forms, and themes of anxiety or spirituality. The subject depicts three pink roses in a blue vase, placed on a green and brown chequered surface, while behind the vase there is a deep blue background. The style is reminiscent of German expressionist and printmaker Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938).
