here we have a marriage chest which is likely to be from switzerland.  using a much earlier pine chest this piece had added feet and then hand painted.

central painted figure holding a swiss flag, flanked either side by sunflowers with faces and roses.  sides painted in an orange and brown scheme and original carrying handles.  lid top with same colours as the sides, opens to reveal a partially fitted interior of a candle box and tray. 'blessed virgin' print still in place on the lid.

evidence of dead inactive/treated worm, expected surface marks and fading to paintwork. See less
