This striking painting was born during Kasia Kręcicka's immersive Texas residency in October 2023 — and you can feel that sense of place in every mark. Working intuitively on raw canvas, she built up layers of deep browns, warm ochres, and confident black strokes, finishing with touches of golden yellow that catch the light and draw the eye in.

The inspiration runs deep: the title nods to the Lascaux cave paintings, those ancient human marks that still feel urgent thousands of years later. Kręcicka taps into that same instinct — the need to leave a trace, to say I was here — and translates it into something that feels both elemental and entirely her own.

In a room, this piece has real presence without being loud. The earthy palette — ochres, warm neutrals, deep brown — makes it a natural companion to natural materials like wood, linen, and leather, and it holds its own equally well against a white wall or alongside richer, darker tones.
