This item is an early 18th-century rolled paper, devotional reliquary box, featuring a central etching of the Virgin and Child. It is adorned with intricate paper quilling (paperolles) in floral and foliage pattern set on a red paper background with gold leaf details. Similar 17th and 18th-century antique religious items were designed to hold sacred relics or decorative embellishments within a gilded frame.
A rare and decorative piece that bridges religious art, folk craftsmanship, and Grand Tour aesthetics.
