Striking pair of vintage Chinese black lacquer wall plaques featuring carved and inlaid hardstone birds and florals in high relief.
One panel depicts a peacock with detailed tail feathers; the other features songbirds among flowering branches. The inlaid elements are carved stone set against a deep black lacquer ground with gilt-painted borders in traditional geometric and scrolling motifs.
Produced for export in the 1970s–1980s, these plaques embody the Hollywood Regency / Chinoiserie revival aesthetic popular in Palm Beach and traditional maximalist interiors.
They make dramatic vertical statements in:
