This piece was acquired through the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn in Hilton Head, South Carolina, where regional basket makers demonstrate and continue the centuries-old coiling tradition.

Constructed from sweetgrass bound with palmetto, this basket reflects a direct continuation of West African weaving techniques preserved in the Lowcountry. The tight stitching, sculptural spiral base, and warm natural tones highlight the meticulous handwork that defines true sweetgrass basketry.
