Architectural abstarction oil painting on cardboard panel by Jean Besnard, signed and dated 1972, colors applied in a thick coat.
In good condition, shows very little wear on corners.
"Does his name ring a bell ? The painter Jean Besnard does indeed have a namesake,
an illustrious ceramist ! However, the painter deserves just as much recognition as the latter, even though his name does not yet appear on search engines.
And for good reason : Jean Besnard, whose official job was human resources management at a factory in Sologne, exhibited his art very little, even though he practiced it almost continuously until his death in 2007.
Indeed, after attending the Académie Libre de la Grande Chaumière in Montparnasse,
like so many other artists who are now famous (Paul Gauguin, Amedeo Modigliani, André Lhote, etc.), he exhibited at the Galerie du Bac in Paris, thanks to Geneviève Degomme.
In the post-war years and early 1950s, only two galleries exhibited figurative artists: the Galerie du Bac and the Galerie Drouant-David. During what was undoubtedly his only exhibition, Jean Besnard met Paul Rebeyrolle, Jean Hélion, and Jean-Paul Salomon, with whom he even lived for a few months. Geneviève Degomme also entrusted Jean Besnard with the management of a small painting studio in her gallery, at the back of the courtyard. " This piece has an attribution mark,
