At first glance, the unusual elements appear purely artistic in nature. However, a keen eye will notice that the ridges along the rim serve as a grip. The two pots hold skewers for olives or tapas. The dish is both visually interesting and brilliantly designed for practical use.

The French artist Thomas Buxo graduated from the Rietveld Academy in 1996. He is known for his graphic design and ceramics and has his own studio in Amsterdam. His decorative ceramics are influenced by the aesthetics of Mid-Century Modernism and are often compared to Picasso. Buxo is an active artist who lives and works in the Netherlands.
