This is a faithful reproduction from the early 1900s of the bronze sculpture "Lion Crushing a Serpent" (Lion écrasant un serpent), originally created by the French artist Antoine-Louis Barye.
Artist: Antoine-Louis Barye (1795-1875), a renowned animalist sculptor.
Date of Creation: The plaster version was presented in 1833, followed by the bronze version in 1836.
Meaning: Commissioned by King Louis-Philippe, the sculpture commemorates his rise to power (the lion) during the July Revolution of 1830, symbolizing victory over discord (the serpent).
