Richardson’s evolved out of an Abstract Expressionist style in his youth to a rich traditional painting style. Living in a generation surrounded by innovation, Richardson chose to look at the American past for his subject matter trying to capture the elusive American identity and meld his artistic vision of the subjects he explored. He was included in the 40 under 40 show at the Whitney along with David Aronson, Robert Birmelin, Sidney Goodman, Richard Hunt, Wolf Kahn, Joan Mitchell and Robert Rauschenberg. He exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) in Recent Painting in USA along with Harold Altman, Robert Beauchamp, Elmer Bischoff, Elaine de Kooning, Robert De Niro, Sr., Leon Golub, Sidney Goodman, Lester F. Johnson, Ellen Lanyon, Richard Lindner, Larry Rivers, Jan Stussy, Joyce Treiman, Tom Wesselmann and Jack Zajac. See less
