The artist uses a muted color palette, and thick layers of paint to build up his composition. Born in 1931, in Buenos Aires, Argentina Modzelevich began painting in childhood. He achieved a distinguished style and reputation which brought him a one-man show in Tel Aviv at the age of 25, and many exhibitions thereafter in Israel, New York, and Paris. He also participated in group exhibitions in Israel and abroad, and in 1958 won the Milo Artists’ Club prize in Tel Aviv. He is represented in museums and collections in Israel, America, England and France. Like so many Israeli artists, Modzelevich was born elsewhere—in Argentina, to Polish parents—but was brought to Palestine in 1939 at the age of 8. His paintings reflect both strength and delicacy, suggesting reality while bordering on abstraction. He died in 1995. Latin American Jewish artist. Studies: 1950-51 with A. From 1964 had independent studio, "Kedem", Old Jaffa. Many of his paintings have been acquired by museums in Israel and abroad as well as by art collectors in the U.S.A, England, France and Israel. Ephraim Modzelevich was a highly gifted colorist with well developed sense of composition. He used abstract means of expression but he did not cut himself off from the appearance of things as they are in nature. He has found the golden mean between reality and abstraction.
