Santi Moix (Barcelona, 1960) lives in New York since 1986. A multifaceted creator, Moix also makes sculptures, drawings, ceramics and mural paintings as well as illustrations for books. Those medias, along with painting shape his way of expression mixing figuration with abstraction. In 2002, Moix was recognized with a grant from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. His graphic work is shown with Pace Gallery. His latest special projects include a painted nude mural for Prada in their SoHo boutique store, interventions at the Brooklyn Museum, Palau de la Música Catalana of Barcelona, and the frescoes in the church of Sant Victor of Seurí in the Pyrenees. He works in a vein that recalls the styles of some of history’s other great Spanish artists such as Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró. He mines literature and art history for scenes that provide points of departure for his fantastical abstractions. His style has biomorphic elements and is influences by illustration art and surrealism. Currently, Moix resides and has a studio in Brooklyn, New York and in Barcelona. He has created work in a wide variety of media, though he is known primarily as a printmaker and painter. Solo exhibitions include “Brooklyn Studio,” M77 Gallery, Milon, Italy; “Santi Moix on Huckleberry Finn: Watercolors and Wall Drawings,” Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York; and “Las Aventuras de Huckleberry Finn,” Centro Cultural Fundación Cïrculo de Lectores, Barcelona, Spain. 2015–2016, A Flowing Fable, Matthew Liu Fine Arts, Shanghai, China In 2013 he was commissioned for a 200-foot mural at Prada’s SoHo Epicenter.
