This is a wonderful vintage judaic painting. Menachem Mendel Schneerson, 1902 - 1994; known to adherents of the Chabad-Lubavitch Chassidic movement as the Lubavitcher Rebbe or simply the Rebbe, was an Orthodox rabbi and the current Rebbe of the Lubavitch Hasidic dynasty. He is considered the most influential Jewish leader of our time. The Rebbe maintained a correspondence and relationship with numerous artists including Cubist sculptor Jacques Lipchitz, Hendel Lieberman, A Chassidic artist who had a close relationship with the Rebbe. Baruch Nachshon, An Israeli artist from Hebron, Israel, who returned to his Jewish roots and sought the Rebbe's guidance in 1964. The Rebbe tasked Nachshon with "repairing" the world of art by infusing it with Kabbalistic and Chassidic spiritual themes. Erna Weill, An American-German Jewish sculptress who corresponded with the Rebbe for over three decades. Michoel Muchnik: A student of Hendel Lieberman who also received artistic suggestions from the Rebbe. Zalman Kleinman who had lived in Kfar Chabad in Israel and was tasked by the Rebbe with recording his recollections for posterity. Marc Chagall did not correspond directly with the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Chagall was born into a Chabad Chassidic family and grew up in Vitebsk, Russia, a region with a strong Chabad presence. His background likely influenced his work, which sometimes depicted scenes from Chassidic life. Well known photographers who photographed the rebbe include Marc Asnin, Shalom Ber Goldstein, Yossi Melamed, Shimon Romani, Mark Seliger, Shlomo Fridrich Vishinsky, His photographs of the Rebbe have been featured in exhibits, such as at the Chassidic Art Institute, Levi Freidin, David Gahr, Fred Mcdarrah, Mal Warshaw and Neil Folberg. There were not many painters who painted the Rebbe during his lifetime making this somewhat more unique. See less
