Gerard Koch was a French Post War & Contemporary sculptor who was born in 1926. Gérard Koch, born on March 10, 1926 in Kaiserslautern in Germany and died on March 31 , 2014 in Paris, is an artist of French nationality. He did his apprenticeship at La Grande Chaumière in Paris, with Ossip Zadkine, Henri Laurens and Emmanuel Auricoste as teachers. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. (he also went by the names Gérard Günth and Manfred Koch) He made his first personal exhibition in the gallery La Spirale in Paris in 1956 . From 1956 to 1983, he exhibited regularly at the May Fair. In 1965, he is a laureate of the Ford Foundation in Berlin. He then stays in the United States where he teaches in Interlochen, Michigan. In 1968, he made a statue of Pierre de Coubertin for the Grenoble Olympics. He then turns to non-figuration. In 1976, he exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in the city of Paris. Then in 1979 at the Pompidou Center. In 1989, he directed La Fugue du Bugey. he is known for his kinetic sculptures and for his families, acrobats and lovers that bear an affinity to the work of American artist Chaim Gross. and Alberto Giacometti.
